My dad was Police Chief of the city I grew up in, my Grandmother (his mother) every Christmas would make a 3 pound coffee can filled to the brim with cookies and candies and give to each of my Dad’s officers, as well as neighbors and friends. We would decorate the outside of the can by wrapping them in Christmas wrap and using a bow on top. This took us a lot of time, preparing all the cookies and candies, but I sure enjoyed learning about it, and baking along side my Grandma.
Ingredients:
3/4 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Firmly packed brown sugar
1 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Unbeaten Egg yolk
1 Tsp. Vanilla
1 1/3 – 2 Cups Sifted Flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Cream butter in large bowl, then gradually add sugars and cream until well blended.
Add vanilla and egg yolk and beat.
Blend in flour to form stiff dough.
Shape into balls the size of marbles and place on a greased cookie sheet.
Flatten to the size of a half dollar with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Bake 7 to 9 minutes until golden brown.
Cool and frost.
Browned Butter Frosting – if you desire a frosting
1/4 Cup Butter
2 1/2 Cups Sifted Confectioners Sugar (Powdered Sugar)
1 Tsp. Vanilla
3 to 4 Tbsp. Cream
Brown the butter then blend in the sugar and vanilla.
Gradually add the cream until spreading consistency.
Garnish with slivered almonds, if desired.

Looks good! (and not too tricky!)
